Gabriel Valiente Martín (Spain, 6 / IV / 1896 _ Colón, 7 / XII / 1957)
This Spanish immigrant from Salamanca, settled on the Colombian plain to earn a living as a small sugarcane colonist. He entered the ranks of the PCC and became a very combative peasant leader, as he led the struggles in the area against the evictions carried out by the North American Atlantic company of the Gulf, and demanded respect for the cane quotas agreed between the colonists and the central. Due to his incorruptible character and leadership, he was captured by the Batista army and killed in a small forest at the junction of the Gispert estate. His remains rest in the San Rafael cemetery.
