Before the Triumph of the Revolution in 1959, the building occupied by this institution was the "Sacred Heart" mutual clinic. After 1959, in the mid-1960s, it became the Committee of the regional PCC, later the seat of the Municipal Committee of the PCC and the government offices of the Municipal People's Power. In 1977 he was handed over to the Culture Department and on December 14, 1978 it was inaugurated as a Municipal Library.

Modesto Torres Library of San José de los Ramos
It was inaugurated on August 8, 1987. It is a building adjacent to the Julián Sánchez House of Culture, which was part of the San José de los Ramos Lyceum Society where the institution has been since 1980.
