They call sports events online
It will be applied to traditional events such as the Capablanca and Guillermo García chess memorials, and school and youth games, the latter if the isolation is maintained until the summer
The online modality is the alternative now used by Cuban chess to stay active and not cancel its main tournaments in the midst of the unusual situation of paralysis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, reports the Cuban News Agency.
According to the national commissioner of that sports discipline, Carlos Rivero, the "formula" of internet events will apply to traditional international events such as the Capablanca memorials and Guillermo García, and also to school and youth games, the latter in case the isolation is maintained until the summer months.
We have to take advantage of the facilities that the internet offers us for online games and that will be our way of facing the difficult times of isolation that we all live, Rivero said in a contact
by phone, in which he recalled that a national team championship had already been held that way, and with much acceptance.
All events will be organized using the gaming platform offered by the lichess.com website, which is easily accessible even for mobile data connections, and this helps in greater participation.
The first of the confirmed events is the Guillermito, which usually takes place in Villa Clara. The new version is scheduled for the first of May with various playgroups and call for ages.
For the 11th, the Capablanca in Memóriam is already being promoted on social networks, which will maintain the format with its closed groups Elite and Premier - the latter only for women -, as well as the Open, with the
expected participation of more than 200 players.
It will occur from 3:00 p.m. m. of the aforementioned date and a day later it will then be the turn of the little ones, who will encourage the also usual "Looking for a Capablanca".
This will be an equally Open event, but for children between eight and 15 years old, who, like adults, will face each other in Blitz games (3 minutes per player).
These plans will be joined by María Teresa Mora, who will have a knockout phase on May 7, with a call for five-member women's teams and definition of awards two days later, a date that will coincide with the celebration of Mother's Day in Cuba.
