Festive activities of popular roots
Colón has been a territory that is famous for the organization and economic success of festive activities with deep roots. In addition, it is the cradle of livestock and agricultural fairs in the country, an aspect that has influenced the preservation of the taste of its inhabitants for rodeo and agricultural fairs.
The festivals that are still preserved in the municipality are:
Popular Festivals of Colón: Heirs to the Popular Fairs and the old Carnivals. They are generally celebrated in the first fortnight of October, in areas of the Colón Sur Popular Council and the Frank País division of the Colón Oeste Popular Council. It includes musical concerts, carriage rides and troupes, gastronomic offers, services for children's appliances and games, and others.
Popular Festivals of San José de los Ramos: Heir to the Patronal Civic Festivals. They take place every year in the main street of the town, called Martí, where the Ramenses enjoy the performance of soloists and musical groups, gastronomic offers, services of apparatus and children's games, rodeo competitions and other activities. In recent years, the procession of San José, the patron saint of the settlement, was resumed through its main streets (March 19).
Verbenas de Guareiras: They keep their original name but without a beneficial character. They take place after the Popular Festivities of Colón in the surroundings of the recreational park of that community. Offer to the population musical and danceable activities, gastronomic services, and children's appliances and games.
Popular Festivals of Banagüises: Heirs of the old Verbenas sponsored by the Arab immigrant Gabriel Llabre (Jabai). They usually take place at the beginning of the summer in public spaces and at the Fermín Burunate Aguay House of Culture. It includes musical and danceable activities, gastronomic offers and services for children's devices and games.
